Where not only the sacred River Bhagirathi flows, but also takes pride in becoming the origination of River Ganges – is a celestial place hidden among the aerial heights of many Himalayan Mountain Ranges known as the Gaumukh Tapovan region. Here, thousands of Hindu saints find refuge and spend their lives performing meditation. Spirituality deeply inspires millions of its visitor. Only a few kilometres away from the Gangotri Temple in the state of Uttarakhand is where you’ll find this mesmerising open terrain that pulsates with life at an astounding height of 4,368 metres (14,222 feet) above sea level. It has been traversed by thousands of travellers who seek to find spiritual shelter in the arms of the Himalaya for a very long time, but more recently, the millennial generation has also joined themselves on the bandwagon of finding the same heavenly sanctuary, maybe for several days. As soon as you step foot in this breathtaking region, you will immediately become immersed in that holy radiance that draws tens of thousands of visitors here each and every year.

ITINERARY :
When you arrive in Dehradun, one of the trek representatives will greet you and bring you to Uttarkashi. During your stay, you will be able to relax and enjoy the scenery of the Himalayas. Following a quick opportunity to freshen up, you will then be escorted to a room where you will participate in a condensed orientation session during which you will be provided with basic information on some of the standard guidelines to follow. Later on, you will have the opportunity to go to the Ghats that are arranged along the Bhagirathi river and where an evening Aarti session is held each day. Rest for the night.
Today morning, you will get the opportunity to participate in a brief yoga session that is held every day with a relaxing respite from the myriad of stresses that are sure to be present in their lives. Following the conclusion of this meeting, you will have breakfast and then pack your luggage in preparation for today’s trip to Gangotri, which is around 94 kilometres distant from Uttarkashi and can be reached in less than 4-5 hours. Once you have arrived in Gangotri, the first thing you will do is check into the guesthouse that you have reserved for yourself and take some time to unwind. Later on, though, you will make your way on foot to the ancient religious temple that is located in Gangotri. You may ask Goddess Gangotri to bless you with good health by praying at this temple, and you can also take part in the nightly Aarti ceremony that is held here every day at around six o’clock in the evening. Enjoy and rest for the night here.
You will be responsible for planning and organising the excursion on your own, although you have the option of beginning the day with an early morning trek to once again experience the mysticism of the Gangotri temple. After that, you should get together around the buffet area to have a hearty breakfast and refuel your body before finally beginning the walk towards your goal. After you have finished packing your possessions, you will attach your hiking packs to your backs and get ready to travel towards Bhojwasa, which is around 14 km distant from here and can be reached in less than 8 or 9 hours of walking. When you have arrived at Bhojwasa, you will set up your tents on the right bank of the Bhagirathi River, and you will have the opportunity to take delight in beholding the natural beauty that is there in front of your eyes. Your eyes will be delighted by the Group or Bhagirathi ranges, and the brisk air will seductively flutter your anxious senses, all of which will cause you to lose yourself in this magnificent vista. Enjoy and rest for the night here.
Following a meal of some delicious meal, you will once again strap your backpacks onto your backs and get ready to set off for the Gaumukh Tapovan Trek area, which will serve as the last stop on this particular hiking excursion. As you make your way up the gentle slope towards Gaumukh, don’t forget to look back and take in the breathtaking panorama of the sacred Bhagirathi Ranges along the way. In order to reach the area of Tapovan, which is one of the alpine meadows at the greatest elevation and is a place of spiritual sanctuary for thousands of Hindu saints, you will have to trek a distance of around 9 km downhill. You will come back together for another session around the campfire, and only after that will you rest for the night in your respective tents.
As you open your eyes to the otherworldly scenery of the Gaumukh and Tapovan regions and make the most of every wonderful opportunity to capture this moment in your memory, you will gorge yourself on the breakfast that has been freshly made. After some time has passed, you will load your belongings into your backpack and get ready to start your descent, but this time you will go down via a different path in order to maybe have another opportunity to see the other side of this adventure. You will have to retrace your steps back 9 km through an area that is characterised by moraines and large boulders and runs parallel to the Bhagirathi River. You will arrive at Chirbasa, which is a charming tiny community that is tucked away below the snow-capped hills in a sheltered valley. You will come back together for another session around the campfire, and only after that will you rest for the night in your respective tents.
After indulging in a sumptuously made breakfast, you will next be ready to trek down to Gangotri, which is around 9 km away from Chirbasa. This lengthy walk may take you anywhere between two and three hours to descend gently, but be sure to take in the scenery along the way since you may not be able to recall it later on in your trip. After landing in Gangotri, you will have a brief stopover there to have lunch before continuing on with your journey. Following lunch, you will board the traveller bus and get ready to go for Uttarkashi, which is around 94 kilometres distant from here and can be reached in less than 7-8 hours.
After indulging in the freshly cooked breakfast that was served to you at an early hour in the morning, you will leave to Dehradun and will reach by 6 pm approx. Say goodbye to new friends and memories.

Things to Carry
- A trekking bag of minimum 20ltr capacity
- A good quality water bottle for your entire trekking journey (like- Borosil, Milton etc).

- 2 trek pants and cargo pants are suggested to keep with you. 4 pairs of warm socks, A small towel, a poncho.
- Good quality waterproof shoes above the ankle length are preferable.
