Overview :
In the Garhwal Himalayas, the mountain known as Black Peak is also referred to as Kala Nag and Black Cobra. It is the tallest peak in the Bandarpunch (Saraswati) range and is considered to be an iconic landmark. It is one of the most difficult climbs, demanding excellent climbing abilities and experience hiking at great altitudes, and its height of 6,387 metres (20,955 feet) makes it one of the tallest mountains in the world. Mountaineers who are looking for an exciting challenge consider Black Peak very highly because of its distinctive form, which resembles the head of a snake. Because of this, the peak is known for its mystique. Black Peak has a long and illustrious history that can be traced back to the early 20th century, when British mountaineers made their first effort to climb it. It wasn’t until 1979 that an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) squad was able to summit the mountain safely. Since that time, it has been a famous destination for mountaineers from all over the globe, drawing intrepid travellers with its treacherous terrain and stunning vistas. The mountain known as Black Peak is said to have important mythological underpinnings in the area, according to the local legend. In Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is one of the most important gods, and many people think that this place is his dwelling. It is also thought that the mountain deities who watch over the surrounding region are responsible for protecting the summit.

Continue the trip in the direction of Purola, which is situated at an elevation of 1,524 metres. It is also known as the “Gate to Har ki Dun” because of its location in the midst of a dense woodland region that is home to a variety of species, most notably the endangered snow leopard. Spend the night in the rest house or the tent provided in Sankri.
Take a vehicle to Taluka after breakfast; it is about 11 km away from Sankri. This little village only has a handful of concrete homes and a few hotels to choose from. The journey to Osla starts at Taluka and goes all the way there. You will go through verdant woods that are strewn with walnut trees, and you will get glimpses of Himalayan communities along the way. Following a climb of a moderate difficulty, you will come to the town of Osla, which is the biggest community in the area and is well-known for its culture. The peasants go to a temple that is devoted to Duryodhana to perform their religious observances. Relax for the night after you’ve finished putting up your tents and enjoying this lovely area throughout the day.
After breakfast in the early hours of the morning, start hiking in the direction of Ruinsara, a glacial lake venerated by the locals for the pristine nature of its waters.
After making a wish at Ruinsara Lake, continue on your journey to Kyarkoti, also known as Base Camp. The view of Black Peak that you get from here is inspiring enough to keep you going for the days that lie ahead. At Kyarkoti, a meadow that is bordered on all sides by mountains and stones, you may put up your tents and become comfortable for the day.
From Base Camp to Advance Base Camp, you must take the boat with all of your necessary equipment and clothes in order to make the summit push. The journey from Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp involves a significant increase in altitude, but it is also an excellent opportunity to get used to the slopes and topography of the summit. Return on foot to the Base Camp. Spend the night at the location.
Continue along the same path that you took yesterday from Base Camp to ABC, which will take you past moraines, glaciers, and ice. You will eventually come to the conclusion that everything seems to be less difficult the second time around. Rest for the night in the Forward Base Camp.
Prepare to go on the boat for Camp 1 from ABC. We have now arrived in a region that is abundant in both hidden and exposed crevasses, and we are treated to a magnificent view of Swargarohini to the north and Bandarpooch to the south. After establishing Camp 1, make your way back to the Advanced Base Camp.
Carry on in the same direction that you went in the day before. The trip from ABC all the way to Camp 1.
It is not an easy climb from Camp 1 all the way up to Summit Camp. After three to four hours of hiking, you will arrive to the campsite, which is located at an elevation of 5,500 metres, and have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking panorama of Black Peak. After setting up the tents, retire to your sleeping bag early.
Around evaluating the state of the terrain and the weather, you should get an early start around midnight. As a result, one of the initial challenges is the bitter cold of the night, which is brought on by the high altitude. Additionally, the ice continues to be hard and firm throughout the morning, which makes it simpler to walk on. The ascent to the peak is somewhat difficult and requires the climber to navigate vertical ice walls that have an angle ranging from 70 to 75 degrees and a height of 75 to 85 feet. In order to climb these portions, we will need to make use of fixed ropes and jumars. This will continue until we reach the ridgeline. The trek to Black Peak (Kala Nag) is a challenging endeavour due to its height of 6387 metres. You will experience contentment and a sense of satisfaction after you have successfully traversed the top. After taking a few shots and enjoying your time there for a little while, make your way back to Summit camp.
This day will be kept extra for summit attempt due any bad weather conditions or injuries.
After reaching the summit with success, go back down to the base camp by leaving from the Summit camp.
You are going to spend the night at Osla Village, so descend from Base Camp to get there. Enjoy every second of your last day as you are surrounded by lush vegetation and towering mountains.
As you make your way towards Taluka, it is time to say goodbye to the kind people that live in this village. When you arrive there, you should stop for a little rest. This marks the end of the hike, and from this point forward, transportation to Sankri will be arranged for you. This is the conclusion of your journey, but you shouldn’t celebrate just yet.
The 15th and last day of the incredible expedition through Black Peak is now behind you. Following breakfast, make your way back to Dehradun. Say goodbye to nature and new friends, also promise to come back again soon.
