Chadar Trek
Starts @ ₹ 24,000/P (9D-8N)
Overview :
It’s quite exciting! It piques my interest! It is a difficult task! It’s impossible to forecast! In addition, it has a large number of secrets for you to unearth on a daily basis, which is an added bonus. If you are the type of person who enjoys the sound of the words “extreme,” “harsh,” “ice,” and “cold,” in front of the word “adventure,” then the Chadar Trek in Ladakh is probably your soul trek. This is because these are the very elements that make this wonder of a trek an experience that is unparalleled in the vast landscape of the Himalayas. This hike, which is actually a stroll on a thick layer of ice built over the tantalising blue of Zanskar River – white as milk in some areas and in others transparent so that you feel truly like you are walking on water – is very aptly described by the word “chadar,” which literally means “a blanket.” It is as bit as mystical as it seems, yet contrary to popular belief, it is not simple. Even though there is not a significant increase in altitude to contend with, nine days will seem like much too little time to learn how to walk on ice and to acclimatise to the very low temperatures that may reach as low as -30 degrees and are sure to give you the impression that your fingers are about to fall off. However, for these very same reasons, it is a journey that should be taken! Being on Chadar is like being transported to a unique country experienced only by a select few – it is a geographical wonder through and through. Sledges are the only way to move rations, and caves are the only place to seek safety from the ever-changing weather.

A bus ride marks the beginning of your adventure in the direction of Shingra Yokma. This trip takes you through some rough terrain, including winding roads and hairpin curves, and offers views of snow-covered mountains. As soon as you get off the bus and arrive in Shingra Yokma, you immediately begin hiking in the direction of the Sumo campground, which is going to be your very first stop along the hike.
This day marks the beginning of your journey to the Tibb Cave. As you make your way to Tibb, you will walk through a number of ravines and gorges, so prepare to be amazed by the natural scenery along the way. The towering cliffs that are located on each side of the location prevent the dawn from entering the region, which results in cloudy and miserable weather. Upon arriving at Tibb, you will find a large cavern that serves as your secluded encampment for the evening and night. After you have had a chance to freshen up, some butter tea along with some munchies will be brought to you. Following this, you are free to turn in for the night.
The walk on day 6 is often regarded as the most rewarding, as well as the most picturesque, and it is frequently photographed. During the walk that you do today, you will come across the well-known ice waterfall as well as the holy prayer flags, both of which will give you the chills. You will also come across a bridge that was constructed directly adjacent to the location of the waterfall; this bridge is also located on the path that people use to get from Leh to Zanskar. Near the conclusion of the journey, you will arrive at the next stop, which is a little settlement known as Nerak, a small village. You choose to spend tonight in the relative ease of the village.
Today is the beginning of your journey back to Tibb. The return trip is difficult since the river is likely to respond differently to the different temperatures at this point. You will also see that the path has begun to take on a more distinctive appearance at this point in time. The splendour of the path would have been quite different from what you observed when you first began the walk when you got to this point. There is also a possibility that people of Zanskar will be wearing traditional woollen Gonchas (robes) throughout your time there. In the Tibb cave, which is also where you will set up tent for the night, you will stop for the night.
You will need to pass Gyalpo today to begin your journey back to Shingra Koma, so get an early start. The day is going to be a long one for you since you will have to hike 13 km in addition to travelling to Leh. You will come across high mountain passes as well as pugmarks in the snow as you make your way back to Shingra Koma. These tracks were made by creatures that live on the snow, such leopards, ibex, and foxes; if we’re really fortunate, we may even get to see one of them. As soon as you have arrived at Shingra Koma, you will begin your trip back to Leh, where you will check into a luxurious three-star hotel for the night.
This unbelievable adventure, which consisted of hiking one of India’s toughest and most exciting trails, comes to a close today. You have an easy start to the day, freshen up, check out of the hotel, and then drive to the airport, from whence you fly back to your own country.
